Richard learned violin at 10 and taught himself guitar in high school. In college, he began dabbling in Jazz and music composition. In addition to serving as director of the guitar club at National Taiwan University (NTU), he won honors such as second-place at the NTU Folk Song Contest in the category of composition, as well as second-place at Tamkang University’s Music Contest for composition and the honor of Best Composer at the event.
Richard started playing bass in his Jazz bands after college. In addition to exposing himself to all kinds of modern Jazz pieces from U.S., Europe, Latin America and Japan over the years, he has spared no efforts to team up with young artists in live houses and major Jazz festivals. He is also a big advocate of the music genre in Taiwan. Since 2008, he has been actively attending international Jazz festivals and trade shows and engaging in extensive exchanges with top-notch musicians. In 2015, he even successfully arranged Taiwan bands Skyline, TFP and Symbiosis to perform at Java Jazz Festival (JJF) - world’s biggest international Jazz event, opening the eyes of global Jazz lovers to the beauty of local music.
Richard is nominated for Best Jazz Producer by 2020 Independent Music Awards (IMAs) and "Best Instrumental Album Producer" by 2022 Golden Melody Awards (GMA).
